Buy More Time
Cut methane now, and buy the years we need for everything else.

What it was about
Buy More Time focused on methane: a greenhouse gas far more potent than carbon dioxide over a short period, and far shorter-lived. Cutting it does not solve the problem, but it slows the near-term warming curve — and that bought time is what makes the harder, slower work on long-lived emissions possible.
The campaign turned that into one concrete public action: sign the #BuyMoreTime letter and send it to your own country's UN Ambassador, asking for methane cuts steep enough to keep temperatures as close to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels as possible.
Why it was needed
Methane is the clearest available case of a fast win being left on the table. Much of it leaks from infrastructure that is already known, already mapped and already fixable. The campaign existed to move it from a technical footnote into a public expectation.
Facts and data
- One action: sign the letter, and it goes to the UN Ambassador of your own country.
- Methane warms the atmosphere far more strongly than CO₂ over the first two decades after it is released.
- Launched at COP29 in Baku, 2024, from the We Don't Have Time studio.
What came of it
Signatures gathered from members in dozens of countries and delivered onward to their UN Ambassadors, with the campaign film and daily broadcasts carrying the argument through the conference.
